class="style19">From the Pastor...</span></p> <div class="content-txtbox-noshade"> <p class="content-subtitle-noshade-size1 style12"> <p align="left"> <br /> We ve just finished our Fall book study, which was a discussion of Rob Bell s new book, &ldquo;Love Wins&rdquo;. It was a great study. We gathered around the table for three weeks and talked about what God s grace looks like in our lives. A copy of the book is in the church library. Bell talks about what his vision of heaven and hell are in our post-modern world and asks the question, &ldquo;Does God get what God wants?&rdquo; <br /> <br /> And he answers that question in these words:<br /> <i> &ldquo;In the Bible, God is not helpless, God is not powerless and God is not impotent& . Once again, God has a purpose. A desire. A goal. And God never stops pursuing it. Jesus tells a series of parables in Luke 15 about a woman who loses a coin, a shepherd who loses a sheep, and a father who loses a son. The stories aren t ultimately about those things and people being lost; the stories are about things and people being found. The God that Jesus us about doesn t give up until everything that was lost is found. This God simply doesn t give up. Ever.&rdquo;</i><br /> <br /> That s a good word, and it s the word of grace that we need to hear in our world. God is constantly trying to pull us into a relationship that is not bro-ken, but whole. And God will never give up on doing that . . . in this life or in the life to come. Bell talks about what the cross and the resurrection mean for him, and what they can mean for our lives. <br /><br /> In Jesus Christ, we have been given <i>&ldquo;the very life source of the uni-verse who has walked among us and continues to sustain everything with his love and power and grace and energy. <br /> <br />  We can name Jesus, orient our lives around him, and celebrate him as the way, the truth and the life and at the same time respect the vast, expansive, generous mystery that he is& heaven is after all, full of surprises.&rdquo;</i><br /> <br /> The Study Catechism puts it this way:<br /><br /> Q: &ldquo;Will all human beings be saved?&rdquo;<br /> <i>&ldquo;No one will be lost who can be saved. The limits to salvation, whatever they may be, are known only to God. Three truths above all are certain. God is a holy God who is not to be trifled with. No one will be saved except by grace alone.
